How Much Does a 2-Agent Customer Support Team Cost?

A worked monthly cost breakdown for the smallest viable outsourced team, across chat, voice and sales services, with every excluded cost named.

Two agents is the smallest team most outsourcing providers will take on, and for good reason — it is the minimum that provides real coverage. This is what that specific configuration actually costs, worked from real numbers rather than a vague "starting from" figure.

The base calculation

Assume a standard schedule: two agents, eight hours a day, five days a week, 4.33 weeks in an average month. That is 346 agent-hours a month, before any add-ons.

ServiceStarting rateMonthly labour cost
Live chat / email $2.99/hr ≈ $1,036
Inbound voice support $4.99/hr ≈ $1,729
Appointment setting $5.99/hr ≈ $2,075
B2B telemarketing $6.49/hr ≈ $2,248
Dedicated sales $6.99/hr ≈ $2,421

The hours are identical across every row — what changes is the rate, and the rate reflects genuinely different work: chat and email support requires less specialised experience than consultative outbound sales.

What is not in that number

  • Telecom — phone numbers, minutes and dialler usage, for any campaign involving calling
  • Software seats — your CRM, helpdesk or chat platform licence for two agents
  • Setup, if your campaign needs significant documentation or configuration work first
  • Weekend or overnight premium, if your coverage needs extend beyond standard hours
  • Optional QA or a team leader, both priced separately from the agent rate

A realistic all-in range

For a two-agent inbound voice team on standard business hours, a realistic all-in monthly figure — labour plus modest telecom plus existing software seats — typically lands somewhere between $1,800 and $2,400. For chat and email only, without telecom, the equivalent range is closer to $1,100 to $1,400. These are indicative ranges, not quotes; your actual number depends on the factors covered on our pricing page.

Why two agents costs less per hour than one might expect

There is no per-agent overhead premium at this size — the rate per agent-hour is the same whether you have two agents or twenty. What changes with scale is not the unit price but the fixed costs (setup, onboarding time) being spread across more capacity, and the option to add a shared supervisor once the team is large enough to need one.

Where this comes from

This guide reflects how we actually run campaigns and what we see go wrong. We have tried to be useful whether or not you ever work with us — including where that means recommending you do something other than outsource.
